Our Children

Be Brave Bears is a charitable organisation run by volunteers who send personalised keepsake bears to children who are terminally ill or have life limiting conditions. Each of our bears is sponsored by businesses, groups or families, meaning these bears are free of charge to the children. Once complete each bear is placed in a special keepsake bag and given to the child complete with a numbered certificate. Once the child has received their bear the sponsor will receive a thank you photograph via e-mail of the completed bear and a sponsorship certificate with the name of the child who you have sponsored. Each bear is allocated a number and will appear on our Roll of Honour. If the child on this page has already been sponsored, but due to the timing of the previous sponsorship it has not yet been removed from this area, your sponsorship will be automatically allocated to the child next on the list (Priority order). This seldom happens but we must highlight that it can occur.

Comfort Seren’s Medical condition...

comfort was diagnosed before birth with a rare congenital heart defect called hypoplastic left heart syndrome, this is where the left chamber of her heart did not develop properly and in effect she has half a working heart. This is a lifelong condition that impacts on her daily. She has undergone two open heart surgeries and is due another in the next year or two. This treatment is considered palliative and will not fix the condition but enables her heart to function. She described her heart as special and as a homemade heart. She also suffered a stroke during prior surgery and this has left her with hemiparaesis (left sided weakness) she enjoys her physio and is doing really well due to the efforts she puts in to use her left side in all aspects of life. This is particularly admirable given the lack of energy she has due to her heart issues. She attends many appointments has many tests and procedures and walks talk loving life - a true heart warrior. She has so much more insight into her condition and the appointments tests etc now she is older, so a be brave bear will be really apt and helpful as she goes through her next stage surgery

A bit about Comfort Seren...

Comfort (aka Comfy) is loving life - full of fun and loves to tease people, professionals say she is amazingly cooperative however she is also very strong willed and keeps her two brothers in line and laughing - loves her friends, art, bikes and jumping, she attends nursery and doesn’t stop chatting and exploring, she is aware she has a homemade heart and it is special and is always brave in the face of all appointments
