Our Children

Be Brave Bears is a charitable organisation run by volunteers who send personalised keepsake bears to children who are terminally ill or have life limiting conditions. Each of our bears is sponsored by businesses, groups or families, meaning these bears are free of charge to the children. Once complete each bear is placed in a special keepsake bag and given to the child complete with a numbered certificate. Once the child has received their bear the sponsor will receive a thank you photograph via e-mail of the completed bear and a sponsorship certificate with the name of the child who you have sponsored. Each bear is allocated a number and will appear on our Roll of Honour. If the child on this page has already been sponsored, but due to the timing of the previous sponsorship it has not yet been removed from this area, your sponsorship will be automatically allocated to the child next on the list (Priority order). This seldom happens but we must highlight that it can occur.

Max William Anthony Johnson’s Medical condition...

In December 2016, Max fell ill with heart failure caused by Dilated CArdiomyopathy. He waited 206 days for a new heart and spent 245 days in hospital. He had a heart transplant in August 2017. 2 months before his heart transplant, he started campaigning to Change the Organ Donation Law. If it goes through smoothly, it will be known as Max and Keira's Law after his donor. Last October, Max was awarded a Child of Courage award at The Pride of Britain Awards. Max has been struggling lately with cognitive issues, so post-transplant life is not plain sailing and ultimately, heart transplantation is life limiting. Max also spearheaded the British Heart Foundation Christmas Campaign to fund important research that can prolong lives post-transplant.

A bit about Max William Anthony Johnson...

Max LOVES music and speakers. This is his passion. He also has a record player, so enjoys old-fashioned vinyl. He is sociable and outgoing and enjoys swimming, cycling, tennis and running. He is competing in the World Transplant Games in August and is very positive and excited about that.
